Every company in the entire world is made up of the same thing…
Everything any business has ever done or ever will do is a direct result of the things people have done and the decisions people have made.
Successful businesses understand that their success is all down to its people and their talents and ideas and decisions and dedication and hard work. They know that if you make sure your people have the freedom to express themselves, be themselves and enjoy themselves, then they’ll make sure they pay the business back with results. They know that people determine whether a business will be a success or a failure.
So there’s no such thing as a business making bad decisions that affect people, but there is such thing as people making bad decisions that affect business. There’s no such thing as a bad business culture either, but there is such thing as negative attitudes, twisted priorities and stubborn people that create an unpleasant and restrictive environment.
So next time things don’t go to plan or you’re feeling trapped or frustrated, it’s no use blaming ‘the system’ or ‘the processes’ because the systems and the processes were just things put in place by people to make things easier.
And what happens when processes aren’t regularly reviewed and improved, is that they’re left as they are, sometimes for many years. Or, other processes are added into the loop to cope with new or changing demand or markets. So instead of admitting things aren’t working and trying something new, things are added and added and added and added, and before you know where you are, you’re surrounded by beurocracy and inefficiencies.
But, because these (and all) systems and processes were created by people, that means they can be demolished and rebuilt by people, too. In fact, the worst thing that can happen if you break the system or skip a process or bypass protocol, is that you’ll offend the people that created it or the people tasked with keeping it in place. So, as long as you can prove that you got results and that it benefitted the business, then what does it matter what system you break or who you offend?
You can’t go through life people-pleasing and arse-kissing; sometimes you just need to get things done.
