Why do people say ‘don’t take this the wrong way’ right before they say something that you’re bound to take the wrong way? Why do they say ‘no offence’ just after they insult you?
When people use those two phrases, it’s never alongside something positive.
It’s never, ‘don’t take this the wrong way, but I love those shoes’ or ‘I really appreciate how supportive you’ve been recently, no offence’.
A knee-jerk negative comment is easy. Complimenting is much harder.
But which does more good?
