Have you seen Yes Man, with Jim Carrey? It’s a film about a guy who spends his entire life saying no. He doesn’t even have an excuse, he just says no. Yet when he starts saying yes instead, great things start to happen.
There are plenty of people who’s knee jerk response is no. I’m sometimes one of them. On occasion, you might be, too.
Sometimes, we spend more time and effort thinking of ways to avoid doing something, not for any real reason. Maybe we don’t want to, maybe we’re tired, maybe we can’t afford it, maybe we don’t want to take a chance, maybe we’re unsure, maybe we’re afraid of what would happen if we did.
What would happen if, tomorrow, instead of saying no or thinking of an excuse, what if we just said yes? What if, instead of spending effort thinking of why we can’t, we spent the same effort thinking about how we can?
Would we develop a more positive attitude? Would we become more comfortable with being uncomfortable? Would we take more risks? Would we experience more? Would we conquer fears?
Should we give it a go then?
