Most people are like most people.
Most people wake up, have breakfast, go to work, come home, have tea and go to bed, then do it all again the next day.
Most people are average.
There’s nothing wrong with being average. In fact, we need average.
We need the average to keep things moving. We need average for stability. Without the average, society, business and the economy as we know it would be far too unpredictable and messy.
Some people, though, aren’t like most people
Some people are on a mission. A mission to grow, learn, develop, improve and change the world for the better.
These people are setting up businesses on the side with dreams of taking it full time.
These people are introducing products that change how we behave.
These people are carrying out research and improving our understanding of the world as we know it.
These people are enrolling on courses and studying in their own time with hopes of furthering themselves and building a better future for their families.
These people are dedicating time to share their experience, expertise and knowledge with the world with the sole aim of simply making a contribution to a cause and helping others. That’s the main reason things like Wikipedia, quora and open source software like WordPress are so successful.
These people are writing books, creating art, travelling, coaching, teaching, mentoring, testing, striving, acting without fear (or still feeling the fear but acting anyway), ignoring criticism and poking life in the ribs just to see what happens.
These people aren’t settling for the here and now, they’re working towards something more.
These people are outliers.
We need the outliers because without them, change and innovation would be impossible and the future not much different to the past.
So how can you be more of an outlier?
